During the establishment program, the Deputy General Director of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, Mr. Yitagesu Desalegn, mentioned that prior efforts to establish AI clubs were concentrated in secondary schools. The Deputy General Director noted that the institution has now expanded to the college level.
He further stated that, as per the nation’s focus on AI, the establishment of such clubs aim to familiarize the generation with artificial intelligence in order to capitalize on it in the future. In a parting statement, the Deputy General Director requested the students in the AI club to serve as college ambassadors for AI.
The Dean of the College, Mr. Meles Yigzaw, remarked that the establishment of the AI club is crucial to aiding the efforts of the college’s digitalization and modernization of the education process.
In addition to the establishment of the the club, higher officials from the institute have taken a tour of the current operations of the college.
Previously, AI clubs have been established in Kokeb Tsebah and Black Lion Secondary School. The General Wingate Polytechnic College AI club is the first at the college level for the institute.
