The agreement has been signed between the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII), the Information Network Security Administration, the Addis Ababa Innovation and Technology Development Bureau, the National ID Program, and the Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency.
The agreement is intended to develop, provide consultancy, and implement technological solutions for civil registration and vital events through ongoing monitoring and collaboration.
The collaboration supersedes the existing civil registration and residency service utilized by the agency. Instead, new systems named CRVS, e-ID, and Mobile ID will be developed and put into operation, with the agency receiving consultancy and monitoring assistance from governmental institutions.
During the event, the Director General of the EAII, Worku Gachena (Ph.D.), affirmed the institute’s readiness to support the efforts to develop technological solutions for civil registration and vital services. The Director General explained that the integration of AI technology into the system would enhance efficiency and improve citizen convenience.
The General Director of the Addis Ababa’s Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency, Mr. Yonas Alemayehu, stated that the upcoming system will enable citizens to utilize mobile phones for identification purposes. It has been pointed out that these systems will enable citizens to access various services in an integrated manner without needing to physically visit institutions.
