The Global AI Summit (GAIN) 2024, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in September, gathered over 30,000 delegates, including international leaders, AI experts, and tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Huawei. The summit focused on eight key topics spanning from AI governance and ethics to practical applications and societal impacts of AI.
Several key agreements were signed at the summit, including MoUs with Microsoft Arabia to develop Arabic language models, IBM for a Center of Excellence in Generative AI technologies, and NVIDIA to scale AI infrastructure across Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the event showcased innovative AI technologies, such as AI-generated avatars, artwork, and robotic bartenders. The introduction of ALLaM, the world’s most advanced Arabic Language Model, was one of the summit’s highlights, alongside initiatives addressing deep fake technology. The key output from the summit was the call for governments and policymakers to take global action in developing ethical frameworks.
