OpenAI has unveiled a new AI model that can reason and solve harder problems in science, coding and math than previous models. The model, the first in a series called OpenAI o1, was trained to spend more time thinking through problems before responding. It has been optimized to respond more effectively to particular instructions and task-specific inquiries.
It can efficiently operate across different domains, including natural language processing (NLP) and data extraction. This makes it ideal for various industries, from customer service automation to advanced research tasks. Designed to be lighter and faster, it delivers results quicker and with lower costs, and is suitable for mobile applications. The o1 models can process longer interactions without losing coherence. This makes them highly advantageous for tasks such as extended customer service conversations or the analysis of lengthy documents.
In assessments, OpenAI o1 demonstrates performance comparable to PhD students on challenging benchmark tasks in physics, chemistry and biology. It accurately solved 83% of problems in a qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad. It is currently available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users and is anticipated to become available for free users of ChatGPT soon.
