The third edition of the Pan-African Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2024 has officially launched in the presence of His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and numerous high-ranking ministers and officials in attendance.
The event commenced with the opening ceremony, featuring a keynote speech from Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh. “Africa is not a passive consumer of technology. We are ready to lead,” declared Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.
The Deputy PM emphasized the need for ethical frameworks and collaborative efforts in AI development across Africa. Moreover, the Deputy PM underscored that establishing the necessary infrastructure, harnessing high-quality data, and empowering a skilled workforce are crucial for sector growth.
The Director General of Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Worku Gachena (Ph.D.) delivered the welcoming speech emphasizing the importance of AI in shaping Africa’s future.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Africa Through AI,” underscores the critical role of AI technologies in addressing the continent’s most pressing challenges.
Panel discussions will be held with distinguished personalities from around the globe. The first day of the conference will showcase tangible advancements in key thematic areas, including Natural Language Processing (NLP), the future of sustainable digital infrastructure, cyber security, and AI applications in various sectors from an African perspective.
