A signing ceremony for the agreement, which integrates various services into a single system, was conducted in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Ethiopian Federal Police.
During a signing ceremony attended by high-ranking officials, the EAII’s Director General, Worku Gachena (Ph.D.) outlined the system’s capabilities. During the briefing, the Director General stated that institutions are improving their operations and modernizing their service delivery by utilizing AI. He further mentioned that the EAII is playing a significant role by developing AI solutions.
The Director-General also highlighted that the system will be available in multiple languages, making it easier for citizens to access and track their cases from any location. He emphasized that the system would provide extra capacity to the justice system.
The Minister for Institutional Building and Reform of the Ministry of Justice, Ermias Yemanebirhan (Ph.D.), expressed optimism that the system will address challenges in the justice sector by enhancing accountability, transparency, efficiency, and modernizing operations.
Head of the Crime Investigation of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Deputy Commissioner General Zelelm Mengiste, noted that the system will encompass the entire process, from investigation to trial, to ensure the safety and efficiency of the justice system and establishing a historical foundation.
The implementation of the integrated criminal information management system is expected to be completed within one year. This significant development marks a major step forward in Ethiopia’s efforts to modernize its justice sector and leverage the power of AI for the benefit of its citizens.
