Employing artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle corruption represents a forward-thinking and proactive initiative
AI has the potential to identify unusual situations, minimize human interaction, increase transparency, and offer a more effective early warning system.
The application of AI in all activities, particularly in public administration management, can decrease the risk of corruption in processes like issuing permits, grants, or public procurement.
Every process will be guaranteed to adhere to established procedures and governance, free from favoritism or influence from any particular party.
The use of AI can enhance governance by promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in decision-making and resource management.
AI could also be effectively employed in continuous auditing, capable of analyzing financial and operational data to identify any signs of corruption.
However, the success of AI implementation relies on the commitment of governments and organizations to adopt this technology transparently and fairly, as well as establish a supportive legal framework.
In this context, the launch of the National Corruption Crime Reporting System (NCRS) by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) is a significant milestone in the country’s fight against corruption. The system, developed in collaboration with the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, provides citizens with a convenient and secure way to report suspected corruption.
